Deafax’s annual Cheese, Wine and Quiz evening went off with a bang so thank you to everyone who joined in helping us to raise a whopping £3,350.73 in a single evening!
A special ‘thank you’ also goes to John Owen and Julia Knight who work for Barclays Bank and chose Deafax’s quiz night as the charity event Barclays would like to match fund.
We introduced a new activity this year to get everyone up and off their seats – paper giraffe building! After a couple of glasses of wine (or considerably more in some cases), this task didn’t seem so weird and was very entertaining for the judges! Congratulations to the winners – you know who you are.
On the night Deafax also received a special donation of £300 from the late Phyllis Lucas, presented by Chris Holt, (Phyllis was his Great Aunt). She was born in 1940 and during the war years she lost both her Father and Brother, then when she was only aged 2 she was struck down with meningitis. She went on to attend a school for deaf children and communicated in sign language throughout her life. Phyllis went on to work and enjoyed a happy marriage. We would like to thank Phyllis and her family for surprising us with this wonderful donation which we will put towards our work supporting deaf children.
